Best of the Broke: May
We had a lot to look forward to in May, and we gotta say, this month really delivered. We appeared on Glamour's website, our Kentucky Derby party was a hit, and we apparently survived both an earthquake and a wayward mountain lion. But what's in it for you, you ask…?
To start with, how about $500, plus an invite to an exclusive InStyle Magazine handbag event? Enter to win ASAP, as this sweepstakes ends Friday.
If you haven't won a giveaway since 1989 and you're looking for more of a "sure thing" when it comes to wallet-plumping, we gave all of you $10, along with deets on the new money-saving MOGL dining program that has us eating more, for less.
Since we clearly never let you go hungry (or thirsty), we made sure to tell you all about two of our new favorite spots -- Faux Pas Bistro and the Blind Barber (where you can actually order up your very own BGG cocktail)!
If our Faux Pas Bistro spotlight got you all excited for a trip to the south of France -- which you are scheduled to be able to afford at some point in 2090 -- don't forget that you can relish the French experience without $800 plane tickets thanks to the local DIY Cannes experience we put together this month.
Meanwhile, our Cinco de Mayo guide was likely responsible for your brutal hangover on the seis de Mayo, but hey, at least we balanced things out with some healthy quinoa recipes care of our new friends, The Poor Porkers.
For those genetically blessed ladies who can eat and drink like porkers, poor or otherwise, and then turn around and rock a bikini the next day, we also picked out 10 perfect (and perfectly affordable) swimsuits for the summer.
Finally, as always, we left it to the pros to provide us with broke-girl-friendly tips for looking fantastic. Dermatologist to the stars Dr. Brandt shared his skincare expertise, celebrity makeup artist Tanya Rae gave us her top 10 drugstore beauty finds, and Shauna Miller of Penny Chic revealed her secrets to styling on a budget.
We also entertained you on Facebook and Twitter, fed your Pinterest addiction, and posted loads of pretty, pretty things on Tumblr and Polyvore. Considering all we do for you, the very least you could do is follow us, no? Or whatever. We love you anyway!
