Summer Getaway: Malibu
Though we’re constantly bemoaning the fact that we don’t vacation enough, our land-locked friends in the middle of the country like to remind us that we actually live in what is essentially a beach town. While a house in Malibu may still be a few Powerball jackpots out of reach (we’re eyeing property next to the Geffens, obviously), a day trip to Malibu is attainable to anyone with a tank (and yes, potentially a whole tank) of gas and some SPF. Here’s our guide to one of the prettiest places on Earth, mudslide survival kit not included.
Travel Time: Depends on where you’re coming from, but expect to park it a bit on PCH through the summer months.
Where to Shop: Hidden Treasures Vintage Shop (154 S Topanga Canyon Blvd). You may have to dig, but you’ll definitely find gold.
Where to Hike: Escondido Falls
Where to Find Culture: The Getty Villa, anytime. This weekend only, The Malibu Arts Festival, where the work of award-winning painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelers, and other artisans will be featured.
Best Bar in Town: The Sunset; just be sure to stick to the booze as the food is pricey.
Non-Cheesy Must-Do: Deep fried fish, BYOB Miller Lite (or whatever suits your cheap-booze fancy) and picture perfect seaside views at Malibu Seafood.
