Adult Swim: DIY Spring Break

Perhaps your kid brother is off in Cabo this weekend, but you’re stuck in the office working overtime.  Or perhaps you are one of those lucky college students enjoying a week-long break, but the furthest your sad little bank account can get you is still a good distance east of Malibu.  Whichever the case, we’ve put together a few spring-break-esque ideas for those of you itching to let loose like it’s 1999 (or, 2009).  Note: you’ll still be in your own backyard, so please refrain from body shots, flashing, or anything of the like lest you end up going down in Instagram infamy.

Rock out --  LMFAO, “Shots”; J. Cole featuring Trey Songz, “Can’t Get Enough”; David Guetta featuring Nicki Minaj, “Turn Me On”; Snoop Dog & Wiz Khalifa featuring Bruno Mars, “Young, Wild & Free”; Jay-Z and Kanye West, “Ni**as in Paris”; Flo Rida featuring Sia, “Wild Ones”...you get the idea.   Or, try Sisquo’s “The Thong Song” on loop.

Get college drunk – if you’re gonna go college, go all the way. Put on an embarrassingly short skirt and head to Saddle Ranch.  Toss back some ginormous, fruity drinks, ride the bull, and make out with guys who are “21” – they swear.  Other options for getting college drunk include Busby’s, Cabo Cantina, any of the other bars on this list, and the Phi Psi house at USC.  For something retro yet somewhat more sophisticated, try these “grown-up” jell-o shot recipes.

Dance on tables -- While we wait with baited breath for The Good Life (or whatever ridiculous name they're giving to Trousdale 2.0) to open, we suggest you cozy up to the bouncers at The Beverly, Greystone, Hyde, or Smoke & Mirrors to indulge in the "best" that LA's club scene has to offer.

Throw a bonfire – perhaps your fondest spring break memories involve rolling around in the sand with a handsome gentleman near (but a safe distance from) a bonfire.  Please, proceed with caution.  Don't try to start a fire just anywhere, or you may spend your "spring break" in jail -- stick to Dockweiler Beach, where it's legal to light up.

Get some sun – while the weather is still a bit too chilly for an ocean dip, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the beach.  Rent a bike for about $6 an hour and go for a lovely ride along the Santa Monica Bike Path.  Or, pack up a picnic (don’t forget to bring a sweater) and head to Zuma Beach or elsewhere in Malibu.  If the sun is all you seek, try a $13 spray tan via Lifebooker or our favorite at-home tanning lotions.  Alternatively, you athletic/wholesome types might prefer hiking the trails at Will Rogers State Park or Echo Mountain as a means of catching some rays.

Sip in the sand – if the above is too tame for you, and your fondest spring break memories involve waking up face-down in the sand, we again recommend that you head to Dockweiler Beach, where it’s legal to drink. Or, throw caution to the wind, grab some forties, and drink wherever the eff you like. Just don’t look to these broke girls to bail you out...
