BGG Weekender

Next week marks a big birthday for one of us here at Broke Girl's Guide, so naturally we've been celebrating for at least a full seven days already.  Thus, we are too tired (read: hungover) to say anything witty or interesting right now, and will instead just say, "Thank GOSLING it's almost the weekend!"  Here's your itinerary:

If Friday night’s to be spent with your man, snag some truffle fudge at the new John Kelly Chocolates on Montana before heading over to see an Annie Hall/Radio Days doubleheader at The Aero. Afterward, grab dinner on the newly-opened patio at Tar & Roses or at newbie hotspot The Charleston.

If it’s just you and the girls, enjoy this Cheese 101 class at 7:30 p.m. and then stop by this Spring Fling party sponsored by Three Day Rule and The Ivy Plus Society. Use promo code “BROKEGIRLS” for a 50% discount on tickets. The first 150 guests will enjoy a complimentary cocktail as well as fabulous raffle prizes.

Start your morning off right by participating in the American Lung Association’s Fight for Air Climb at 9 a.m. Next, since you are a fitness maniac, follow up the stair climb with a free or $1 dance class between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Music Center, also downtown. Then, take advantage of one of the 19 museums that has free admission on Saturday, or peruse the free Brewery Artwalk from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.  While downtown, watch out for the drunks from the LA Beer-a-thon (which is sadly sold-out), and try not to miss Cero Space’s first show, which debuts at the Brewery Arts Complex at 6 p.m. Later, grab dinner at Chaya Downtown, whose $3 specials are ending this weekend; the Lazy Ox Canteen, which has a special menu through Sunday; or freshman pub LA Brewing Co.

If you’d rather stay a little farther west, grab a sandwich at the newly-opened Marcona on Wilshire and then head to Space 15 Twenty at 1 p.m. to join Broke Girl's Guide and others for some serious styling at the 365Hangers Style-a-Thon.  Unless you’re already signed up for the nude scavenger hunt (gasp!) at LACMA, you may then want to check out the New Urban Voices exhibit at The Maximillian Gallery at 6 p.m. If you can, try to squeeze in dinner at the newly opened Tortilla Republic on Robertson, and finish up your night with a drag show at Hamburger Mary’s in Weho at 10 p.m.

Start off your day by taking advantage of the many specials that end Sunday as part of Santa Monica’s Buy Local Weekend, such as 10% off your lunch or dinner at Brick + Mortar. Then, head to Royal/T’s Vintage Clothing Swap & Shop from 12 - 5 p.m. Afterward, check out the smart comedy The Boomerang Effect at 2 p.m. at the Odyssey (buy discount tickets from Goldstar or just use promo code “FAN” for $10 off each ticket) before popping over to the Nerdist Writer's Panel at 5 p.m. End your weekend with a little edification at this The Artist’s Way (8-10 p.m.) event, because your creativity deserves “support, inspiration, and accountability," and because you can't be drunk all of the time.
