We have to be honest. There isn’t a whole lot of excitement happening around town this weekend. It’s a 3-day holiday, and it’s the short breather between the Grammys and the Oscars, during which the majority of Angelenos run out of town. A little quietude can be nice, however, and we’ve put together a weekend that combines R&R with things like Carnival, so that you'll be relaxed, not bored.
Start your night with some pampering at the Fab Fit Fun event at Nail Garden in Brentwood. Afterward, grab dinner at Sugarfish on San Vicente. Then, head to the Nuart Theatre for the 15th anniversary celebration of Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, complete with a '90s costume contest, guests from the film, and a Rocky Horror Picture Show-esque shadow cast performance at midnight.
Sleep in, then grab lunch at newly-opened 3rd Street Station. Afterward, watch The Clippers play The Spurs at Goal or The Parlor. Later, get dinner downtown at MexiCali’s new brick-and-mortar location, then stop by the opening reception for Ansel Adams Los Angeles, an exhibition of rarely seen LA photos taken by the famed photographer. Then, rush over to The Palace to catch a performance by Lucent Dossier at 9 p.m.
Spend the day at Natura Spa in K-Town -- you’ll have to get comfortable with extreme levels of nudity, but use of the facilities is just $15 for the entire day. Plus, massages are only $40 (and they’re good!). Later, get gussied up for an outside-of-the-box evening at the Edwardian Ball.
Or, throw an all-day party in honor of Carnival, happening this weekend in Brazil. Tomorrow, we’ll have recipes and entertaining tips along those lines for you. As the following day is Mardi Gras, you could always combine the two events for a full day of debauchery. Just be sure to kick everyone out at a decent hour -- after all, it’s a school night!
