BGG Weekender

So, you didn’t get to go to New York Fashion Week, and you’re feeling a little bit sorry for yourself. We get it -- we love self pity! -- but it’s 29 degrees and raining in NYC this weekend, and while your friends are trudging through it in their Sunday best, you’ll be strolling the sunny streets of Los Angeles shopping sales they won’t have access to. Feel better yet? Let’s take a look...

Friday

We do a lot of V-day hating, but we’re going to momentarily put those negative emotions aside and recommend you check out the opening reception for “Love”, a new exhibition at the Kana Manglapus gallery in Venice. Afterward, grab dinner at Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing, the pop-up restaurant that may or may not be evacuating Abbot Kinney soon.

If you can’t stomach the sap, head to The Egyptian instead for a doubleheader featuring Citizen Kane and The Magnificent Ambersons. Afterward, grab a late-night bite at the newly reopened Kitchen 24

Saturday

We’re starting our Saturday at this 5k/10k in Westlake. It is organized by a dear friend of ours, and proceeds go to benefit pancreatic cancer. We’d love it if you’d join or donate!

Those of you who can’t fathom running (you can walk!) at 8 a.m. on a Saturday still have to get up that early to line up outside of the Barneys Warehouse Sale, which opens at 9 a.m. Afterward, fuel up with a sandwich from Blue Cow, the newly-opened Mendocino Farms spot downtown. Then, head west to The Avenues, a block party of sorts which includes a number of sales on Robertson, Melrose, and Beverly.

Continue west back to Abbot Kinney, where you’ll join our friend Kristen from Glitter 'N Glue for some DIY action at The Alternative Apparel store. Grab a couple of small bites afterward at Tar & Roses, then head to The Aero for a doubleheader featuring His Girl Friday and It Happpened One Night.  Hit up Swingers afterward if you’re still hungry.

Or, if you feel like making your way back east for the evening, check out the first quarterly tequila tasting at El Carmen and then head downtown for the indoor/outdoor gallery and dance party known as Create:Fixate: I Art You

Sunday

If you didn’t hit up Barneys on Saturday, now is your chance. Afterward, swing by the Local Love event at Unique LA -- shop local vendors, do some DIY, and -- most importantly -- drink for free.

If you’re in the market for something black tie (e.g. your boyfriend is flying you by helicopter to French Laundry for V-day), you’ll then want to stop by the Andaz for the Rent The Runway pop-up shop. Afterward, get your exercise on in Brentwood at CorePower Yoga -- we hear amazing things about the studio, and you can try a week for free. Then, undo all of that hard work with a chocolate-making class, just in time for the most chocolate-y holiday since Halloween.

Finish out the weekend watching The Grammy’s in your most spring-like pajamas, content in the knowledge that the current temperature in New York City will be somewhere around 18 degrees.
