We can’t believe it’s already Labor Day. If life keeps up at this pace, we’ll soon be writing the Golden Girl’s Guide to LA (early bird specials, here we come!). However, since our youth hasn’t quite waned as of yet (depending on who you ask), we’ll stick to happy hours for now and just be glad we live in a place where there’s only about a ten degree temperature distinction between summer and winter. We’ve outlined your weekend below. Enjoy (before it’s too late).
Kick things off by signing up for one week of free yoga (at participating studios) courtesy of National Yoga Month, which begins today. This may be the healthiest thing you do all weekend.
7 p.m. -- When that’s done, make your way over to The Taste for Burgers & Beer (presented by our friends at Eater LA) in Beverly Hills. Tickets are pretty pricey, but you can get them at 40% off here using promo code FAMILY.
When you’re properly stuffed, bail out for the 9 p.m. Diego Garcia show at the Largo. To be honest, we don’t really know who he is, but he’s really hot and apparently puts on a good show. That’s more than we can say for most of our Friday night dates, so we’ll take it. Tix are $20.
So, Disney’s Beauty & The Beast is one of our favorite movies of all time. We may or may not be listening to the soundtrack as we write this. At 10:45 a.m., the El Capitan is screening this cinematic gem in 3D, and you can have breakfast with Belle beforehand. We are seriously planning to do this. #thisiswhywe'resingle
Afterward, for fun of the more adult variety, post up at the FYF Fest downtown at the Los Angeles State Historic Park. Bands include Broken Social Scene, Girls, Cults, & more. Tickets are $40.
We’re going to go out on a limb and suggest you spend your Sunday at the LA County Fair. We honestly can’t think of anything more fun than a little face painting, some cotton candy, and a bad stuffed animal you have to pay $$$$ to win. Groupon’s even offering a little deal on the Fair today.
Afterward, head back to LA proper and grab a bite at the newly opened and uber-cheap Currywurst on Fairfax. Sure, it sounds a little scary, but at this point you’ve been eating crap at fair all day and your system will be thus desensitized. Plus, this new sausage spot is actually supposed to be great.
If you don’t feel like passing out in a food-and-fun coma afterwards, check out the scene at either newly opened SmithHouse in Century City or newly opened Seventy7 in Culver City, where you’ll need a password found here to get in.
It’s going to be nearly 80 degrees at the beach on Monday. We suggest you follow our Manhattan Beach itinerary or, perhaps, our Malibu Day Out. If either of those seems too aggressive, look for our rundown of the best free pools in town, which will be up on Broke Girl’s Guide tomorrow.
