DIY Face Masks

Whether it's a Saturday night party that will be vividly documented on FaceBook, or a family gathering that will be vividly documented by Aunt Edna, we are never psyched to be immortalized on film with our skin looking less-than-lovely.  Luckily, there are simple ways to give yourself a cheap and easy at-home facial, ensuring that the only thing immortalized will be you -- looking fabulous.

For dry skin:
Mash half an avocado in a bowl, then stir in ¼ a cup of honey. Apply to skin and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse face with a cool washcloth.

For chapped or sensitive skin:
Mix 1 cup natural yogurt with ½ a cup of oatmeal (any type of basic oatmeal works). Apply to the skin for 10-15 minutes. Rinse face with a cool washcloth.

For breakouts:
Smash a cherry tomato (which balances pH levels and tightens pores) and add an equal amount of plain yogurt. Leave on for 10 minutes.

For oily skin:
Mix a ripe banana and 1 tbsp of honey together. Add a few drops of juice from an orange or lemon. Apply to face for 15 minutes before rinsing with a warm washcloth.

For exfoliation:
Mix brown sugar with olive oil and gently scrub for one minute.

For puffy eyes:
Prepare two tea bags by soaking them in water, wringing them out and chilling them in the refrigerator or freezer. Once they are chilled, lie down and place the bags on closed eyelids for 5 to 10 minutes. Cool cucumber slices also work well here.

Note:
Unless you have very sensitive skin, you might want to steam open your pores before applying your mask. Simply take a wet wash cloth and heat it up in the microwave at 10 second intervals. Make sure that it's nice and warm (but not too hot), and rest it on your face until it starts to cool -- this will help the mask penetrate your skin.
