BGG Weekender
Sometimes, it feels like all we do is work, and that the line between the week and the weekend has become increasingly blurry. Since we know that this kind of workaholic behavior will shortly send us straight to the looney bin, we encourage you to rebel against it. Shut down your computer this weekend, put your blackberry in a drawer somewhere, and just enjoy the things that really matter. Like drinking.
Friday
We'd like you to start out by taking in the show Talk Dirty to Me, Lover (The Truth About Nerdy Girls), which involves ‘dramatic interpretation of OK Cupid emails.’ Awesome. It starts at 9:30 p.m., so take advantage of dineLA menus at nearby Grub or Street beforehand. If you’re feeling saucy afterward, pop over to Winston’s for Dirty Fridays. And speaking of Winston’s, if it happens to be your birthday this weekend (or any weekend moving forward), email info@djladysha.com for a free table and bottle of champagne on any Saturday.
Saturday
Grab a nice hangover breakfast at The Original Pantry downtown. Afterward, swing into the LA Convention Center to check out the LA Times Travel Show and the LA Fit Expo. When you’ve tired of hearing about vacations you can’t afford and/or muscles you’ll never have, take a short drive over to the Eagle Rock Brewery for their 2nd Anniversary Celebration.
Or, dedicate the rest of your day to some downtown art exploration. This weekend marks the 7th Annual Museums Free-For-All, with free entry to the following downtown museums: California African American Museum, California Science Center, Chinese American Museum of LA, and MOCA. Also downtown is the Geffen Contemporary, which is housing the exhibition we told you to see yesterday entitled Under the Big Black Sun. While in the area, swing by the Eva Franco sample sale.
Afterward, either have dinner at newbie restaurant Red Hill in Echo Park or make your way west for a sushi-making-class, 6 p.m. Tix are $29, but if you’re new to LifeCrowd, you get a $10 credit and can bring a friend for free. If you have rich and benevolent pals who want to take you out on Saturday, we suggest you finish the night out at the Skrillrex or They Might Be Giants show, or check out Pico House: A Paranormal Investigation. Otherwise, head to the free Black Box party as a part of the Pacific Standard Time festivities.
Sunday
Start your morning with free yoga at Lululemon in Brentwood at 9:30 a.m. Or, try Yoga Detox via LifeCrowd. Grab breakfast at NY Bagel Co. in Brentwood or Kegs & Eggs at Fig in SaMo afterward, depending on which yoga practice you choose. Then, get ambitious with a drive over-the-hill to the Vintage Clothing and Textile Show in Burbank -- these are the types of places where hidden gems abound! Or, swing by LACMA to catch the opening day of this show. Then, go downtown for the Chinese New Year Festival in Chinatown. Finish out the night (and the weekend) with an early dineLA dinner at The Spice Kitchen, as per Eater LA Editor Kat Odell’s suggestion.
