June Gloom is the punishment we Angelenos must suffer for the 80-degree days we enjoyed back in February. You know, the ones you posted about on Facebook, thus prompting hundreds of friends who live elsewhere in the country to consider deleting you as a 'friend'? Some days, especially if you live west of the 405, the June haze can curb your motivation to leave your apartment (or your couch, for that matter). But it is the weekend, and we'd hate to see you let it go to waste just because of some dreary ol' clouds and chilly (for LA, anyway) temps. So, here are some ways to get out there while (mostly) avoiding the less-than-optimal weather conditions.
8 p.m. - Who doesn't love a good dance movie? Grab a girlfriend or an unsuspecting date and check out the film screenings at the Dance Camera West Dance Media Film Festival. Try happy hour at Palomino beforehand - it's all day every day in the lounge section (food & drinks).
7:30 p.m. - If you owe your man one for forcing him to sit through Something Borrowed a few weeks back, take him to the 30th anniversary screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Hit up happy hour at Nic's Martini Lounge prior to the show for $7 drinks and appetizers.
10 a.m. - Tickets go on sale for the Arctic Monkeys + TV on the Radio + Panda Bear + Warpaint + Smith Westerns show at The Hollywood Bowl on September 25th. Buy them here.
Hidden right behind LA Live is the Figueroa Hotel and its chill (and potentially chilly) Verandah pool bar. Pretend it's a nice night and saddle up to the heat lamps for a cocktail.
Stick around the area for chick flick Life Happens (7:20 p.m.) with Rachel Bilson and Kate Bosworth at LA Live or grab some picnic supplies and bolt over to Exposition Park for a screening of Old School or to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery for a screening of Heathers.
It's Father's Day! We've done all of the work for you in building these itineraries, so all that your Pilates-toned bum has to do is show up. Dad is going to be so impressed.
If you're not into, you know, doing things for other people, sleep in as late as your gloomy little heart desires and then head to the Satine sale (up to 40% off!) to shop it off.
When Monday rolls around and you’re once again chained to your windowless cubicle, you'll thank us for having emboldened you to brave the bitter "cold" this weekend. And, of course, next week’s workday forecast is sunny and 75. June Gloom sure seems to have an irksome affinity for the weekends, no?
