BGG Closet: Fall Trends We’re Currently Coveting
Bikinis are great and all (if you’re Audrina Patridge), but our favorite time of year to dress for is fall. There are literally thousands of things we want right now, and the only way to keep ourselves from buying them is to instead get you to buy them. Here are the top trends we’re coveting for fall:
1. Chunky Cable Knit Sweaters: Just because we live in LA doesn’t mean we should deprive ourselves of cozy things best worn with a bowl of clam chowder (from Blue Plate Oysterette) in hand. This orange J. Crew Fisherman Sweater ($79.50) is quite yummy -- and on sale. We like this River Island version, too.
2. Polka Dots: How cute is this MinkPink Stop and Stare Polka Dot Chiffon Blouse ($82.33)? Though it's slightly more expensive, we are also obsessed with this Free People Boho version. For something cheaper, check out this beauty from Zara.
3. Heeled Loafer: We still haven't found the perfect heeled loafer (at a BGG-friendly price point), but these Sullivan Moccasin Platform Loafers ($124) are pretty close. This trend can be tough to style, but we think this Nine West ad has it right -- we love heeled loafers with socks. Also, we're crushing on this wedge version.
4. Pussy Bow Blouses: Forgiving the name, these are our favorite go-to of the season as they are very of-the-moment (and also, very '70s) and go with almost everything. We found a ton of bowed blouses we loved at ASOS, but this denim version ($64.03) is our favorite.
5. Plaid: We love a typical plaid shirt as much as the next girl (especially this one worn by Annalynn McCord -- American Eagle has some good ones as well), but we’re really lusting after this Pendleton meets Opening Ceremony Check Dress with Cutout Back ($186.61 - on sale from $625.69).
6. Capes: We oogled tons of these and personally own this wool version in Oxford from American Apparel. Our favorite, however, is this ASOS Funnel Neck Military Cape ($73.18).
7. Glitter: Even without the hot Victoria's Secret model, this gold sequin blazer ($158) would be sexy. We’re also loving this Glitter Cuff Bracelet and these little girl suspenders from J.Crew (which we think we could fit into...?). If you're looking for a more timeless sequin piece, we like this MICHAEL Michael Kors stretch-jersey tank dress and this Zara blazer.
8. Tuxedo: It probably makes the most sense to invest in a classic tuxedo piece such as this, but this coral version from ShopNastyGal.com ($68) caught our eye and we couldn't be deterred from sharing it. Pairing it with leopard makes it work beautifully for fall.
9. Bold Hues: Of course, skies the limit here. We picked this Kenneth Jay Lane Emerald Cocktail Ring ($60) because you can get a ton of wear out of it.
10. Kimono-Inspired Outerwear: This Laser Cut Metallic Lined Kimono ($118) is a moderate version of this trend, but the possibilites for styling with it are endless. We're also loving this flirtier version from French Connection.
11 &12. Animal Print: It seems not long ago that animal print was reserved for moms we knew back home in Texas. However, it has been hot now for several seasons, and we're just not over it yet. We fell all over ourselves for these leopard print slip-ons from Steven by Steve Madden ($119.95). Here's a cheaper version from Forever 21 as well.
We're also loving a python clutch for fall. We recently showed you how to make your own, but if you're not the handiest, we think this vegan version in green ($88) is adorable.
13. Flares: In our opinion, you won't find a more perfect flare for fall than these Free People 5 Pocket High Rise Flares ($78).
14. Tortoise: We can’t stop obsessing over these Warby Parker sunnies ($95). Marc by Marc Jacobs is also doing some great tortoise jewelry right now.
