Fall Hair Makeover Tips from a Pro

We may have mentioned before that we’re a hot mess when it comes to making our hair look presentable.  Once, a stylist even gasped in horror as we walked through the door and said, “You actually go out in public like that?”  Sigh. Luckily, there are professionals like Audrey Rae from the Warren-Tricomi salon (8327 Melrose Ave.) to stop us from scaring people on the street. Knowing we can’t afford to sacrifice our firstborn children for the sake of vanity, she’s offered to discount the total cost of her services by 20% for those who mention Broke Girl’s Guide. Here are a few free tidbits from Ms. Rae to get you started:

Fall has arrived. Summer was a blast, but we all know what can happen to our treasured tresses. The sun, beach and pool are very harsh on our hair. Not to mention, the growth frenzy you just experienced during the summer months has probably left you out of shape with straggly ends. Point in case; you need a ‘mane makeover.'  This season is all about bringing back a more sophisticated look.

1. First of all, get a fresh cut. Even if you are super attached to your length, a dusting to clean up split ends will make you feel like new.  An easy way to switch things up is by adding shorter layers for more movement and body, or adding a bang. There are many types of bangs and your stylist should customize a look that accentuates your best features.

2. Next, tone down that ombré. Dimension is essential to a beautiful ‘do. So this season keep it on the natural side with just enough ‘pop’ to catch the eye.

3. Also, enough with the messy beach waves. Try a more classic wave to accent the new fall wardrobe. You will feel flawless and so well put-together.

4. The best tip for keeping your locks looking fabulous: don’t be lazy with styling and maintenance. Blow out the mohawk section on the top of your head with a round brush to smooth out your roots and/or increase volume. Even if this is the extent of your primping, it’s the most imperative, and it can achieve the look of a full blowout.

5. Remember to use professional products to protect the hair from all the elements and achieve the style you desire. It does make a difference. I’m a big fan of L’Oréal Professionel, especially their new product, mythic oil. It works wonders in wet or dry hair to smooth out unwanted frizz, leaving a silky sheen, and it’s good for all hair types.

6. Finally, see your hair artist on the regular. A personalized consultation is key. Be transformed this season and bring about the most beautiful you!
