Fake It ‘Til You Make It: DIY Our Fave Facial Oil

Being a broke girl can, at times, be tough. Just because we’re not rolling in dough doesn’t mean we don’t have a taste for expensive things. And even those of us who can afford to blow our wads on each and every new product on the market don’t always feel its worth it to do so. However, we here at BGG truly believe we can have it all--and do so on a dime. So, we’re figuring out how to “fake it 'til we make it” by trying to beg, borrow, and steal (er, usually DIY) our way to getting what we want:

Obsessed seems like an understatement when it comes to Rodin Olio Lusso Facial Oil. Every major magazine, blog, beauty editor, it-girl, socialite, heiress, and kleptomaniac is swearing by it to the point of being shrill. “It will change your complexion!” they say. “It’s a dry oil!” they assure. “It’s completely natural!” they proclaim. And you? You got your friend at the Barneys beauty counter to smuggle you a tester and guess what. The rumors are true. This stuff is legit. But at $150 a bottle, it’s just not going to happen.

Heartbreak. Except when you let your obsession wander, do a little research, and discover that Linda Rodin concocted said miracle oil in her very own New York City apartment bathroom. And the DIYer in you says, “looks like there’s hope for me yet!”

Here, our version of Linda Rodin’s cult facial oil:

Grapeseed Oil (naturally absorbent and allergy-resistant)
Argan Oil (anti-aging, highly moisturizing, reduces inflammation)
Rosehip Seed Oil (contains 6 different Omega-3 fatty acids, improves clarity + tone)
Jojoba Oil (very absorbent in skin, meaning non-greasy; good acne treatment)
Tamanu Oil (aids topical healing)
Vitamin E Oil
Jasmine Essential Oil for fragrance (optional)
Neroli Essential Oil for fragrance (optional)

Mix equal parts of first 6 ingredients. Add two drop each of remaining two ingredients for fragrance. Experiment with ratios; see what works on your skin—that’s how Linda Rodin did it!
